So my sewing progress has slowed down since last month with the Pattern Stash Contest. But I've got these three pieces done!
Pattern Description: Skirt suit with jacket and skirt variations separate pattern pieces included for B, C, D, cup sizes.
I made the view B jacket twice in two different fabrics. I made the view E skirt.
Pattern Sizing: This pattern is available in sizes 6-22.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think so.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, I thought the instructions were just fine. I did not get stumped at any point. This pattern has some good tips for finishing raw edges for a more professional look.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the different pattern pieces for the different size bra cups. I have a small bust, so this was a great feature for me. I like the design of the jacket. It's a basic piece that can be worn with just about everything in my wardrobe. It has really cute pleats along the sleeves. I also live the bottom of the jacket- it is cut along the bias and gives it a little flair.
The skirt has a cute shape. It is fitted along the waist and hips and sort of flairs out at the bottom.
The only thing I didn't like is the sleeve lining. The lining rolls out at the bottom and can be seen from the right side of the garment. I ended up tacking the garment in a few places on the inside sleeve to keep it in place. To prevent this, I recommend taking about 1/8 inch off the top sleeve lining before sewing it. This should cause it to roll slightly to the inside instead of the outside.
Fabric Used: The white and black print jacket was made of this awesome linen like material from Joann Fabrics. It has a heavier weight and from one side it was a white background with black blossoms (that's the side I used as the right side). The other side is a black background with white blossoms. I'm not sure of the exact fabric content or how much I paid for it but it couldn't have been over $20.
The gray suiting is from Denver Fabrics. . It is a poly/rayon/lycra blend and cost me $19.50 for this project- that included one jacket and the skirt. The lining is also from Denver Fabrics and was used for the sleeves in both jackets and the skirt. It cost me $11.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only alteration was making the petite adjustment that is included with the pattern.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I will probably use this pattern again at least for the view A jacket. That one has long sleeves and a ruffled collar. Yes, I would recommend this pattern to others.
Conclusion: A great mini wardrobe for mixing and matching pieces. I now have a great business/interview outfit with the gray suiting!
